Remembering Jazzpurr Our Gentle Giant

(Sharing Jazzpurr's Memorial on Caturday Art to help other pet pawrents make a similar graphic. Instructions at the bottom of the post.)

  Remembering Jazzpurr:

Jazzpurr came into my brother's and my life nine years ago when a mama cat came with three kittens to my brother's porch. Those three kitties were Jazzy's brothers and sisters Sammy, Toby and Miri... once these three kids were safe in my brother's home... mama cat Maggie brought three more kittens!

Two white and one black... Jazzpurr, Jordi and Justin. These kids were harder to get into the inside world... had to use traps and poor Jordi, white with one blue eye and one yellow - was full of stickers in his fur and deaf.
They were almost 8 weeks old when they came inside. Jordi started trusting me until brother made the mistake of trapping mama Maggie before we had an appointment to get her spayed. And then when we put feral Mama Maggie in the same room with her three big boys...Jordi and Justin stopped trusting us and we never got their trust completely back.

We were able to get Maggie fixed and back where she wanted to be, but she never returned to eat at my brother's house...

Yet Jazzpurr decided that he liked people very much... and his favorite thing was skritches at the base of his tail.
After the boys were fixed, Jazzpurr and Jordi started getting a little plump yet they were big boned boys and held their weight, ran around the house and stayed healthy save for kitty colds when the kids were three (2013).

Two years ago, Justin passed away from an immune system disorder... Jazzpurr and Jordi started getting way overweight late last year though they ate the same amount as their siblings. Brother Mike and I changed their diet...and we had really bad bout of fleas last year but got that under control.

Yet Jazz always protective of Jordi being deaf would hide with him in the laundry room. Last Wednesday Mike found Jazz laying on the floor and he couldn't move - he had thrown up and lost his urine. Rushing him to El Paso Animal Hospital, they discovered his red blood cells were compromised from hemobartonella and his liver wasn't functioning, blood sugar too high. Vet who took his care said that the parasite may have triggered an underlying genetic disorder (possibly same as Justin?). They put him on doxycycline for the parasite and IV for dehydration. They were able to get his blood sugar regulated by Thursday and we went to see him Thursday evening. He hadn't eaten, but Jazz let me force feed him some of the food on his plate. We came back Friday morning and asked for an appetite stimulant. By that evening, he let me feed him almost a whole portion of Sheba and I was praying he was turning for the better.

Yet by Saturday he just let the food fall out of his mouth. I tried syringe feeding and he tolerated that. Over the weekend, the tech staff syringe fed him liquid nutrition and checked his blood sugar. But his pancreas shut down and his blood sugar dropped drastically. Jazzpurr the Gentle went OTRB Sunday night September 30, 2019, knowing lots of love, that vet staff really cared. I had watched him perk up his ears when he heard a particular vet tech's voice Friday and Saturday. His demeanor would relax like he wanted me to know that someone there had really cared about him. Jazz rarely meowed - all about sign language with him, subtle clues... I wish we could have been there Sunday night when he passed away. Yet when we came to pay respects for the last time Monday evening, we could tell that he must have passed away smiling the night before. He must not have been scared when he went Home. Our boy is with Justin now and I'm so thankful we were able to get a loan to cover his care - he went home peacefully and loved by the vet staff at El Paso.

Thank you everyone for your purrz and prayerz. sorry took so long to finish this post. I had trouble finishing this memorial for crying... I know Jazzpur is Home. We were able to get a loan from Scratch Pay of $900 and $93.00 from Care Credit. We brought dear Miri his sister in because she was showing some of the same signs of weight loss as Jazz - she will be starting on doxicycline and steroids. Hope that we caught the blood infection in time. We also want to thank two special people who sent funds to Paypal. (this is an update) which we used to pay toward his urn ($240), leaving $146.00. Brother Mike paid $120 out of his mortgage payment. Still need to cover our first payment back to Scratch Pay of $84.00 by the end of October. We also have a monthly bill of $159 to Care Credit for all the animals we have helped over the past several years. Please consider honoring Jazzpurr's memory and all the care that helped him go home with love by gift thru paypal to laugh_safely at yahoo dot com.

Instructions on how to create similar graphic made fur Jazzpurr. First I used Pho.to Heart Filter and then clicked on the frame link on the right which sent the graphic to the edit.pho.to page. In frames, third one down, first column. I picked text, it will ask you to apply the frame first, and used the "sample" with the yellow box called "permanent marker." Changed font size, text color to white and box color from yellow to closer to the background. Centered the text and positioned the text box (now I think it should have been higher). The graphic wouldn't download for some reason. Ended up using the print screen button on my keyboard and pasting in Paint dot net (free software), and cut the graphic out, leaving the grey border from the photo edit background. Finally I used Umark Watermark Software for copyright.

    1. Thank you Sandee... We weren't there when he passed away, but the vet techs were and they really cared... I looked over my writing and realized I had written the second to last paragraph too quickly - jumbled up. I tried to fix it. Hugs and Purrz, Katie Kat.

  10. Our hearts go out to you all at this time. We are both so so sorry that his time had come. Though for us all it must and no amount of love or prayers can forestall gods call, but our courage and letting go along with the love we show will make the journeys to come for those we have lost and ourselves be better. Be strong and remember the good....
